Rose (Giguere) Pollard

December 16, 1916 ~ September 24, 2016 (age 99) 99 Years Old

Rose (Giguere) Pollard, 99, formerly of Colrain and Greenfield, died Saturday, Sept. 24, at Wingate of Sudbury in Sudbury, Ma.
She was born in Colrain, December 16, 1916, the daughter of Joseph and Minnie (Fontaine) Giguere.
She was the youngest and last of thirteen children. Siblings who survived into adulthood were Joseph, Lily, Eva, Bertha, Minnie, Rosalba, Walter and Henry.
With the early death of her father, "Cuckoo," as she was referred to by family and friends, was forced to leave school after completing sixth grade to work in the former Kendall Mills in Griswoldville to help support the family. She retired in 1982 from Kendall where she was employed for 50 years.
She, along with her husband Carl were active members of the Fifty Plus Club in Colrain and the Friends of the Shelburne Senior Center where they helped to prepare Meals-on-Wheels.
Rose enjoyed hard work, canning, cooking, baking, making piccalilli each fall, but most of all her family and her religion. She saw that her children obtained the education that she felt was so important.
Rose was quick witted and fun. From the Triad officer, to grocery clerks, to the people living near, she was known and remembered for her colorful personality.
In 2005 Rose moved from Colrain to The Weldon in Greenfield, then moved to Concord Park Assisted Living in Concord (MA) to be nearer her daughter, Linda Mullin in Maynard. A recent illness resulted in her last few months at Wingate in Sudbury. She received outstanding care and was dearly treated by all who surrounded her.
Rose was predeceased by her husband Carl in 1993 and her son William in 1994.
Survivors besides her daughter Linda (Edward) Mullin of Maynard, include her daughter-in-law Joan Pollard and companion Bill Pedigree of Greenfield; 7 adored grandchildren Michael Mullin, Melissa Fire, Marsha Smith, Michelle McHugh, Christopher Pollard, Alexander Pollard, Jennifer Bryant and their spouses; 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
Always wise, Rose could be counted upon for direction, undying love and devotion. She will be solely missed.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Monday, Oct. 3, at 12 noon at St. John the Baptist Church in Griswoldville with retired pastor Rev. John A. Roach officiating. Burial will be in West Branch Cemetery, Colrain.
Calling hours will be Sunday afternoon from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home in Shelburne Falls.
It is suggested donations be made to the William C. Pollard Scholarship Fund, c/o Mohawk Trail Regional High School, 26 Ashfield Road, Shelburne Falls, MA 01370.
