Shelburne Falls, MA- William T. (Bill) Walker, 80, of Bray Rd, passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at home following a period of declining health.  He was born on January 7, 1943 the son of Clifton W. and Norma R. (Sommer) Walker.

He was a lifelong resident of Shelburne Falls, graduating from Arms Academy in 1961.  It was there that he met his future wife, Diane Aiken, and they were married on August 7, 1965 in Colrain, MA.

After high school, Bill attended Greenfield Vocational School where he trained as a machinist.  From 1967-1969 he served in the U.S. Army stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska.  Upon his completion of service, he and Diane returned to Shelburne Falls and he went to work for Greenfield Tap and Die as a foreman.  Later he was Vice President at Mayhew Steel Products in Shelburne Falls for many years, and retired as Vice President of Operations from Lamson & Goodnow Manufacturing Company in Shelburne Falls.

Bill was an involved member of the Shelburne Falls Fire Department from 1970-1987 where he was a fire fighter, an EMT and served as Fire Chief for several years.  He was a past member of the Shelburne Falls Kiwanis Club.

Known for his ability to fix just about anything, he welcomed the challenge of being called upon by many for his know how on a wide array of topics over the years.  He enjoyed family gatherings, tinkering around the house, working in the perennial garden with Diane, playing cribbage, and driving his Buick Grand National.

Bill is survived by his wife of 57 years, Diane Walker, his daughter, Lisa Harris and her husband Stephen of Greenfield, his son, Steve Walker and his wife Karen of Buckland, five grandchildren, Nathan and Autumn Harris, Ashley, Ryan, and Kate Walker.  He also leaves a sister, Loretta Markowski and her son, William.
