Walter W. Hicks, 88, of Mountain Rd., passed away at home on Tuesday, June 28, 2022.
Walter was born in Buckland, MA on May 27, 1934 the son of Ray and Christine (Barnes) Hicks.
On October 24, 1955 he was married to Beverly (McKinnon), happily married for nearly 67 years.
Walter was a dairy farmer on the Hicks family farm his entire life. He enjoyed getting up early and working hard all day. He loved the cows, the chores, and keeping the family farm up and running.
Some might describe Walt as a “talker” because he enjoyed conversations with whoever was nearby. Not much for politics, but if you stopped by the farm you might have joined him in a little discussion about what’s going on around town or elsewhere.
As a young man he was a good hunter. He knew the woods around the farm and in town, and always seemed to bring one home. Later in life when he was bedridden for a time, family and friends would bring their turkey or deer by the house and he would look from the window and guess the weight, and was surprisingly accurate.
Walter was a man who loved the land, his farm and most importantly his family.
He is survived by his wife Beverly, a son Allen W. “Herbie” Hicks and his partner Tina Peters of Buckland, daughter Kathy A. Reynolds and her husband Erwin of Charlemont, daughter Judith Provonost and her husband Don of Charlemont, daughter Susan Jenks and her husband Tom of Charlemont, seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews,
A graveside service will be held Saturday, July 2 at 10:00 am at Leavitt Cemetery in Charlemont.
There are no calling hours.
