Vivian A. (Roberts) Williams

Vivian A. (Roberts) Williams, 86, of Colrain MA passed away peacefully at RegalCare Senior Care on Sunday afternoon. 

Vivian was born to Bertha Ellen Wiles Roberts and Harold Louis Roberts in Holyoke, MA on November 30, 1936. Vivian graduated from Arms Academy class of 1954 and went on to complete a degree in business from Northampton Commercial College in 1956.

On August 3, 1957, Vivian married Glenn Williams in Colrain MA. Vivian and Glenn went on to have one son, Mark Williams born July 20, 1960. She loved being a mother and was so grateful to have him. She couldn’t have been prouder of the man Mark became.  

In March 2002, Vivian retired from her job as the Treasurer at Greenfield Farmers Cooperative to spend her time traveling, reading, and enjoying the company of family and friends. She loved her family above all else. She tried her best to never miss a graduation or wedding and bragged to anyone who would listen about the accomplishments of her nieces, nephews, son, and granddaughters; her refrigerator always decorated with photos of their growing families.

Vivian was sharp witted and had a brilliant mind. She was a voracious reader and a master of crossword puzzles; her memory was unmatched. She would have been everyone’s “phone a friend” on Who Wants to be a Millionaire. She seemed to always have the answer to any question ever asked.

She loved to travel, especially with her late best friend, Nancy. She never returned home without a glass egg or China plate to add to her ever-growing collection. Vivian spent much of her time in her final days enjoying the birds that visited her bird feeder, visiting with the many loved ones who stopped in to see her, and looking through photos of her beloved great grandchildren. 

Vivian was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Glenn Williams; brothers, Raymond Roberts and Carlton Roberts; as well as her sister-in-law Sheila Roberts and brothers-in-law Pete Wagner and Jon Griswold.

She is survived by her son, Mark Williams, who will miss her very much; granddaughters Berry Williams and Rosie Gilbert; her three great grandchildren Jack, Isla and Leo Gilbert; her brother Deane and his wife Patty; her sisters Marilyn Griswold and Janet Wagner and sister-in-law Susan Roberts.

A graveside service will be held at the North River Cemetery in Colrain at 2:00 pm on Wednesday January 18th. A reception to follow at Colrain Community Church 306
