Ruth M. (Sumner) Corey

Heath - Ruth M. (Sumner) Corey, 94, passed away on July 8, 2024, at the Charlene Manor Extended Care Facility.

Ruth was born in Shelburne, MA on March 15, 1930, the daughter of the late Ralph and Rachel (Burrington) Sumner. She graduated from the former Arms Academy in Shelburne Falls, class of 1949.

She retired from Mayhew Steel Products as their office coordinator where she was a part of everything from payroll to editing the company catalog.

Ruth was a devoted fan of the Red Sox, and an avid reader, who also enjoyed gardening, knitting, sewing, and bird-watching.

She was a lifelong member of the Heath Union Church and a member of the Ladies Aid for over 30 years.

Ruth was a valued member of the Heath community, always helping others in need.

The surviving members of her loving family include her sister Dorothy Harding of West Townsend, MA, son Alan Corey, and daughter Dawn Holden, both of Heath, MA. Affectionately known as "Nammy" to her three grandchildren; Rebecca Felton and husband Lee of Whately, MA, Amy Holden and her fiancé John, and Ryleigh Holden all of Heath, MA, two great-granddaughters; Nicolette and Abilene, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ruth was predeceased by her husband, Ronald Corey, and brothers Robert and Richard Sumner.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 13 at 1 pm at the Heath Union Church with Rev. Neil Stetson officiating. Livestream will be available at  heathunionchurch.org. Burial services will follow in South Cemetery in Heath.
