Ruth Brown Obituary

Ruth V. (MacLaughlin) Brown, 91, of Shattuck St., passed away Monday morning, July 20, 2020 with her loving family at her side.

Ruth was born in Boston, MA on September 21, 1928 the daughter of William E. and Minnie E. (Lindahl) MacLaughlin. She was a graduate of Springfield (MA) Technical High School.

Ruth was married to Francis T. Brown on February 2, 1957 at the First Baptist Church in Greenfield. They were married for 56 years until Francis’ death on March 3, 2013.

Prior to her marriage, Ruth was employed by Greenfield Tap & Die and after her children had grown, she worked in the office at JC Penney in Greenfield for a number of years.

Every fall Ruth and Francis both worked at the Franklin County Fair. Ruth was in the ticket booth at the front gate and enjoyed seeing friends and making new ones every year. In retirement years they wintered in Myrtle Beach, SC and enjoyed exploring the area including the Carolina Opry. Ruth very much liked to travel to Maine and visit the Nubble Lighthouse in York.

Ruth truly loved to spend time with her family, enjoyed the fair, and relaxing on the beach.

Ruth’s family includes her daughter Beverly Interlande and son-in-law Lawrence of Greenfield, her son Jeffrey Brown and daughter-in-law Sonja (Moulton) Brown of Greenfield, her grandchildren Elise Brown of Chicopee, MA, Parker and Marty Brown of Greenfield, Ben Interlande and spouse Callie of Norfolk, VA, Tony Interlande and spouse Kayla of Wells, ME, and a great grandson Calvin Interlande of Wells, ME.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, it is requested memorial contributions be made to Pioneer Valley Hospice & Palliative Care, 329 Conway St., Greenfield (www.pioneervalleyhospice.org) or to the charity of one’s choice.
