Roderick Koncal Obituary

Roderick Robert Koncal passed peaceful at home with his family by his side on January 3, 2023.  He was born August 22, 1940, the son of William and Agnes Koncal of Shelburne Falls, MA.  Rod attended Arms Academy, and then went onto the Greenfield Vocational School where he trained as a carpenter and graduated in 1963.   Rod started and worked many years for Cooke & Jones, later went to Mowry & Schmidt, and finally retired from Renaissance Builders.

Rod married Sandra Moltenbrey in 1965 and were married for 57 years.  He was a skilled and talented carpenter who kept himself busy for many years.  He volunteered his skills at the local Moose Lodge where he was a lifetime member along with his wife.  He was an accomplished fisherman and cherished when his children would accompany him to the trout stream in search of the “lunkers” that played a part in his fishing stories.  Rod enjoyed his time with family and friends around his pool, he was an avid gardener, a true Red Sox and New England Patriots fan, and his favorite all time show was Gunsmoke.

Rod survived by his wife Sandra, his sons Robert & Michael of Greenfield, and daughters Sherry & her husband Carlton Hubbard of Bernardston, & Jennifer Widelo of Greenfield.  He also leaves his brother Gordon from North Carolina, 10 grandchildren, and one great grandchild.  Rod was predeceased by his mother and father, brothers John and William, his sister Cynthia, and brother-in-law Louis.

We want to recognize and give special thanks to Triad, Life Path, Overlook VNA, and Hospice for their unconditional support and compassion they provided to Rod and his family.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on April 15, 2023 followed by a burial at the Calvary Cemetery.   More details TBA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Greenfield Moose Lodge 997 for the Moose Charities endowment.
