Reita Wheeler Obituary

Reita G. (Sell) Wheeler, 77, of East Colrain Rd., passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield.

Reita was born in Westfield, MA on November 25, 1946 the daughter of Gustave and Ruth (Sarty) Sell. She graduated from Pioneer Valley Regional High School in Northfield.

Reita was a talented musician and in her younger years, she played both the piano and organ for a local band. She would travel with the band as they played throughout the Pioneer Valley at various venues.

At home on the farm she raised Morgan horses and showed them at fairs and shows in New England and beyond for over 30 years. She had a special connection with one of her favorites whose name was “Red”. She spent countless hours in the barn training, brushing and feeding Red and all the others over the years.

Away from the farm Reita enjoyed gardening, going to the beach, and boating on lakes in the area with her children and husband “Spike”.

Reita’s loving family includes her son Ken Payne of Bradenton, FL, her daughter Charleen Payne of Colrain, her grandson Jaden, her sister Judy Flynn of Greenfield, nieces, nephews and friends. An avid animal lover, she also leaves her beloved dog Gatsby.
