Ralph G. Cassidy

Ralph G. Cassidy, 89, of Laurel St., passed away with his loving family by his side on Thursday, May 5, 2022 at Charlene Manor Extended Care.

Ralph was born in Greenfield, MA on March 21, 1933 the son of Herbert and Mary (Carme) Cassidy. He attended Holy Trinity School and graduated from Greenfield High School, a member of the class of 1952.

Ralph was a Korean War veteran, serving in the 803rd Engineer Aviation Battalion-SCARWAF (Special Category Army with Air Force). He was Honorably Discharged from the US Army in 1955 having obtained the rank of Sargent.

After serving his country Ralph was employed by the Massachusetts Department of Public Works, District 2, retiring as a civil engineer in 1989.

On April 30, 1960 he was married to Jacqueline R. Almstead at Holy Trinity Church in Greenfield. They recently celebrated their 62nd anniversary.

He was a communicant of Holy Trinity Church and served as a collector/usher at the 5:30 Mass for many years.

Ralph was proud of his Italian heritage and loved being around his large extended family for Sunday dinners, holidays and special occasions.

Ralph was a lifetime member of the Greenfield Elks Lodge Post #1296 and was recipient of the 50 year pin. He enjoyed the morning “Pinochle/Coffee Club” where he met daily with his friends. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #0081 in Greenfield.

He especially enjoyed his two grandchildren, Cameron and Rose, and took great pride in their activities and accomplishments.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Jacqueline “Jackie” Cassidy, daughter Laura Kelleher and her husband Tim of Greenfield, son Douglas R. “Doug” Cassidy of Victor, Idaho, grandson Cameron Kelleher and his wife Eman of Boise, Idaho, granddaughter Rose Cassidy Kelleher of Medford, MA, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be Monday evening from 5 to 7 pm at the Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home, 87 Franklin St., Greenfield. It is requested that those attending wear a mask for precaution.

A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, May 10 at 10:00 am at Holy Trinity Church, 133 Main St, also in Greenfield. Committal prayers will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Ralph’s family wishes to acknowledge the wonderful care and attention the nurses and staff of Charlene Manor gave to Ralph over the last year. Their compassion and dedication will not be forgotten and the family will forever be thankful.
