Phillip “Phil” G. Drumheller (85), surrounded by family, left to be with the Lord on July 14, 2023. He was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on November 20,1937 to the late George and Mildred (Cummings) Drumheller.
He was known as ‘Phil D’ to his many radio listeners throughout Western MA. His 70 year career in broadcasting spanned across several radio stations in the Springfield and Greenfield areas, including WHYN and WHAI. His dream of owning and operating his own station came true in 2003 when WIZZ hit the airwaves and was on air for nearly 20 years. He was very grateful for the support from both his family and loyal listeners.
Phil was inducted into the Massachusetts Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2010.
He was predeceased by his wife, Michele (Kane) and is survived by their daughter Laura Drumheller of Shelburne Falls.
He is survived by his children, Michael (Karen) Drumheller of Wilbraham, Paul (Christine) Drumheller of E. Longmeadow, Marie (Steven) Wenninger of Ludlow, and Mark Drumheller of Wilbraham from his first wife, Bernice of Wilbraham
Phil is survived by his 12 grandchildren: Nicolas, Matthew, Marissa, Mia; Megan, Brandon, Amanda; Samuel, Joshua, Rachel, Jacob; Courtney, and his 2 great grandchildren: Cole & Spencer
He is also survived by brothers David (Susan) of Wallingford, CT and Daniel of Whitinsville, MA and sister Maureen (Curtiss) Stella of Bristol, CT as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will take place Friday, 7/21 from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home, 87 Franklin St., in Greenfield.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday 7/22 at 11:00 am at Holy Trinity Church, 133 Main St., in Greenfield. Friends are asked to meet directly at the church and not at the funeral home Saturday morning. Burial services will be private.
