Peter Hanas, of Conway, passed away September 9, 2022 at the age of 95, on the family farm where he was born. He was the son of Ukrainian immigrants John and Anastasia (Makuch) Hanas. He attended Arms Academy and was a dairy farmer his entire life.
He married Millie Peters on May 21, 1955. They were married for 65 years until her death in 2020. He also is pre-deceased by a sister, Mary (Peter) Tezbir. Peter is survived by his two children Carol (Daniel) Thurlow and Peter M (Lora) Hanas of Conway, four grandchildren Gina (Matt) Marceau of South Deerfield, John Thurlow of Conway, Patrick (Ashley) Hanas of Leverett, and Amy Hanas of Fairlee VT, and four great- grandchildren Joshua and Hailey Marceau and Erin and Abigail Hanas. and several nieces and nephews.
Peter enjoyed fishing, watching movies on TV, the gathering of his family at birthdays and holidays, and cheering for the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.
Graveside services will be Wednesday September 14, 2022 at 11:30 AM at the Holy Ghost Ukrainian Cemetery, Long Plain Road, Whately, MA. Funeral arrangements are being handled by The Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to the Conway Ambulance Fund , PO Box 240, Conway, MA 01341 or Pioneer Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 329 Conway Street, Unit #2, Greenfield, MA 01301 .

A special thank you to all of Peters neighbors and friends who kept a watch on Peter especially after Millie’s death. Whether it was stopping for a minute to visit while he sat outside, or waved to him while he sat inside by the kitchen window, he always watched for you. You all were a very special part of his life.
