Becket - Nancy Elizabeth (Damon) Burke, 72, Athol, died peacefully Thursday (3-24-2022) at her daughter’s home in Becket. In her last days she was surrounded by her loving family, friends, and her chihuahua Nelson.
Born in Greenfield, January 24th, 1950 she was the daughter of Alan H. Damon and Elizabeth (Bagg) Damon. She graduated from Greenfield High School in 1968 and received her Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts from Greenfield Community College in 1981.
She lived and worked in Greenfield until 2010 when she moved to Athol where she was a resident for the remainder of her life.
She was employed in secretarial and administrative assistant positions for all her working life. These include the town of Greenfield Assessors Office, Baystate Franklin Medical Center, and Visiting Nurses of South Deerfield.
She was a member of the Second Congregational Church of Greenfield and later of the Athol Congregational Church.
She grew up in Greenfield and spend some of her happiest days visiting with her grandparents at their Chestnut Hill home near Highland Pond, as well as her family in Chesterfield, and summers at her aunt and uncle’s summer home in Maine. Her greatest joy was in time with her children, their children, and her many friends. She loved reading, writing, babies, dogs, birds, flowers, and weekend tag sales. Two of her written works are published.
Survivors include three children, Michelle E. Burke Birrell of Becket and her husband, Ron; Melissa J. Burke of Easthampton; Michael A. Burke of New Salem and his wife, Melissa; one brother, Robert S. Damon and his wife, Nadine; five grandsons, Corey R. Pease, Keanu M. Burke, Gavin R. Houle, Solomon A. Burke, and Joseph E. Burke; one granddaughter, Sarah J. Houle; one great-granddaughter, Willow V. Pease. She is predeceased by her (former) husband William A. Burke who died in 2015.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 1:00 pm at the Second Congregational Church (greenfieldsecondchurch.com). Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Susan Tarolli, Interim Pastor. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
