Nancy L. (Depta) Belval

Nancy L. (Depta) Belval, 84, passed away peacefully at home on March 8, 2025.

Nancy was born in Middle Island, NY on March 16, 1940, the daughter of Pearl and Stanley (Ben) Depta. After graduating from Port Jefferson High School, she attended The Grace Downs Air Career School, located in Glen Cove, NY. The school offered training for aspiring flight attendants and other airline-related positions. As part of her training to become a hostess for the airlines, she learned how to jump out of a plane, a feat she was very proud of! The school was known for its comprehensive programs and placement assistance for graduates. Following completion of her training, Nancy became a hostess and worked for US Overseas Airlines (USOA), a supplemental air carrier operating in the United States, including Long Island, NY. She was later employed by Central Vermont Public Service of Brattleboro, VT, in the front office. She retired after 25 years of service.

Nancy was fiercely independent, confident and self-sufficient. Her frugality and common sense was evident in her favorite saying, “waste not, want not”.

She is survived by her daughter Valerie (Dave) Munday of Groveland, MA, her granddaughter Kihanah, whom she cherished, step-daughter Debbie Crowningshield of Rowe, MA, step-sons Robert Belval of East Fairfield, VT and Darryl Belval of Halifax, VT, her sister Theresa Miller of Peru, NY, several step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren, and her dear friend Priscilla Levy of Brattleboro, VT.

Nancy was predeceased by her husband Robert H. Belval, her parents Pearl and Stanley (Ben) Depta, and her sisters Pearl Alster and Sophia Smimmo.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
