Marjorie J. Underwood, 95, formerly of Norwood St., passed away peacefully on December 26, 2022 at Charlene Manor Extended Care Facility.
Marjorie was born on June 24, 1927 in Readsboro, VT, the daughter of Eva (Giguere) and Fred St. Pierre. She attended local schools.
On May 8, 1948 she was married to Kenneth A. Underwood and they were married for 53 years prior to his passing in 2002.
Marjorie worked for many years and retired from the former Kendall Mills in Griswoldville, MA. She later went on to work at the Hallmark Colors Labs in Turners Falls, MA for many years after retirement. She was also a volunteer at the Franklin Medical Center and an election volunteer for the city of Greenfield.
Marjorie was devoted to her faith. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish in Shelburne Falls and Blessed Sacrament in Greenfield.
In her spare time she enjoyed knitting, reading and playing bingo. She was an avid walker and enjoyed her many walks with her caregivers. She was a big Red Sox and NE Patriots fan. She loved the Christmas holidays each year, together with her family celebrating the holiday at her home before leaving for Christmas Eve Mass.
She was predeceased by her mother and father, her husband and her son Larry Underwood, step-father Philip Grandmaison, brother Fred “Boy” St. Pierre, sisters Anita Bruffee, Mary St. Pierre and step-sisters Marion Verrier, Mildred Gaffigan and Helen Delaney.
Marjorie is survived by her son Edward Underwood (Gail) of Bernardston, daughters Mary Parsons (Dale) of Conway and Donna Card (Rich) of Greenfield, step-brother Alfred Grandmaison of California, grandchildren; Jeremy Underwood (Deb), Erin Wasileski (Kurt), Josh Parsons, Jackie LaRue (Mike), Heather White (Richard), step-grandsons Scott and Shawn Parsons, 3 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, brother-in-law William Delaney and sister-in-law Elizabeth Williams.
Marjorie’s family would like to say thank you and show their appreciation to the many nurses, therapists, and staff at Charlene Manor for their wonderful and loving care of their mother over the past years.
Visiting hours will be held Friday, 12/30 from 9:00 am to 10:30 am at the Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home, 87 Franklin St., Greenfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at Blessed Sacrament Church at 11:00 am, Committal prayers will follow in Arms Cemetery in Shelburne Falls.
