Malcolm Arthur Caron passed away peacefully at home on July 18, 2021. He was 76 years old. He was fondly known to many as Mac or Mackie. Mac was born October 16, 1944 in Greenfield, MA to parents Bernice (Brown) and Roland Caron Sr. He was the oldest of five children.
Malcolm grew up in Colrain where he attended Colrain Schools and Arms Academy.
Survived by daughter, Melissa (Caron) Bednarski and husband John of Greenfield, MA and five grandchildren Alyssa Schacht and fiance Raymond Sherrick of Swanzey, NH, Matthew Bednarski and wife Hannah of Greenfield, MA, Jacob Bednarski and partner Trent Holmes of Greenfield, MA, Benjamin Bednarski of Greenfield, MA and Isaiah Caron of Hatfield, MA, a great-granddaughter, Aidan Schacht of Swanzey, NH, two brothers, Roland Caron, Jr of Kansas City KS, John Caron and his wife Laureli (Morrow) of Montpelier, VT and a sister Judith (Caron) Moore and her husband David of East Hampton, CT, along with numerous nieces and nephews and a multitude of cousins. He also leaves behind his beloved dog, Wilbur.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Cynthia (Wilder) Caron, his parents Roland and Bernice (Brown) Caron, a sister Joyce (Caron) Sage and a son, Dennis Caron.
He enjoyed watching Red Sox games, playing card games with family, and puttering around and maintaining his home where he raised his family. He loved the outdoors and the wildlife that appeared to be drawn to his property, Mac loved sharing stories of his life experiences. He also enjoyed trying his luck with the lottery, either by numbers or with scratchers.
Mac was known for his strong work ethic and was skillful in operating and maintaining heavy equipment. His past employers include Stafford Trucking, Kendall Mills and the Town of Colrain from which he retired in 2007 after 22 years where he worked on the highway crew.
A visiting hour will take place Friday, July 30 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home, 40 Church St., Shelburne Falls. The funeral service will follow at 11:00
Burial will immediately follow the service in West Branch Cemetery, Colrain.
