Linda Jones Obituary

Linda Frances Jones

1951 – 2026

CHARLEMONT— Linda Frances Jones, 74, a lifelong artist and devoted advocate for animals, passed away on February 11, 2026, at Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield, surrounded by memories of a life well-lived.  Those who knew her described her as a rare and precious friend who was exceptionally brave and loving.

Born in July 27, 1951, she was the daughter of the late Norman J. Jones, Jr. and Jean (Woolley) Jones. Linda’s creative journey began early and led her to the University of Massachusetts, where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting and drawing in 1976. Her artistic eye stayed with her throughout her life, informing the way she saw the world and the beauty she found in nature.

While her soul was that of an artist, her heart was one of service. Linda dedicated 30 years of her professional life to the Visiting Nurses Association, providing support and care to her community with the same steadiness that she brought to all her endeavors.

Linda’s greatest passion, however, was for the animal kingdom. An avid equestrian from a young age, she was never happier than when she was horseback riding. For many years, her beloved quarter horse mare, Sugar, was the center of her world and her most cherished companion. Her advocacy for animals extended far beyond the stable; she was a fierce supporter of animal shelters, adopting many "rescues" over her lifetime and providing both public advocacy and private financial support to numerous animal welfare organizations.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 53 years, Paris Finley of Charlemont, who remained her steadfast partner and caretaker through all of life’s seasons. She also leaves behind her sister, Lisa G. Jones. Linda was predeceased by her parents and by her two sisters, Lynne Anne Jones and Lorraine Jones.

Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. In honor of Linda’s lifelong mission, memorial contributions may be made to a local animal shelter of one’s choice.

Arrangements are under the care of the Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home in Shelburne Falls.
