Lesley L. “Les” Chadwick, 75, of the Mohawk Trail, passed away Sunday, August 25, 2024 at Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton.
Les was born in Greenfield on January 4, 1949, one of ten children of Frank W. and Eunice (Manning) Chadwick.
On March 11, 1969 he enlisted in the United States Navy and served during the Vietnam war aboard the USS Saint Paul. He was honorably discharged December 15, 1970.
He was employed locally at Greenfield Tap & Die and went on to work for the Mass. Div. of Fisheries and Wildlife at the Sunderland Fish Hatchery.
Les was a Life Member of Post #8503 in Shelburne Falls. From 1983 through 1998 he held many positions at the Post such as; Commander, Judge Advocate, Adjutant, All State Quartermaster, Senior Vice Commander and Junior Vice Commander.
At the District level he served as; Guard, Junior and Senior Vice Commander, District 13 Commander, Membership Chairman, Deputy Inspector and Community Activities Chairman.
At the State level he served as; Americanism Chairman, Parade Committee State Convention, Convention Committee, Assistant Membership Chairman, Community Activities Chairman, Assistant Deputy Inspector, Holyoke Soldiers Home Committee, Judge Advocate, State Surgeon, Safety Chairman, Junior and Senior Vice Commander and State Commander.
At the National level he served as National Aide-De-Camp and National Security and Foreign Affairs Committee at the National Convention.
Survivors include his step-children; Rudy King, Kathleen Chadwick, Ella Giguere and Brenda King, his brothers LuAllen (Sue) Chadwick of Swansea, NH, John Chadwick of Buckland, Joseph (Priscilla) Chadwick of Ashfield and Chet Chadwick of Colrain, his sisters; Louise (Bud) Aiken of Greenfield, Ruth (Ernie) Beckwith of Buckland, RoseAleta (Leo) Beckwith of Plainfield, Anne (Phil) Damone of Ashfield and Melissa (JP) Thayer of Harrisburg, VT, 14 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Sadley his wife Marilyn “Mickey” (Wright) Chadwick predeceased him on June 25, 2024. They have been buried together at the Mass. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Winchendon, MA
A Celebration of the Lives of Les and Mickey will be held at their home, 1127 Mohawk Trail in Shelburne on Saturday Sept. 7 from 2pm to 4pm. All are invited.
