Judith Arlene (Herzig) (Bird) Tetreault, affectionately known as “Judy”, age 83, passed away peacefully at her home in Colrain, Massachusetts, surrounded by family on May 9, 2025. She was born in Greenfield, Massachusetts, on November 8, 1941, the daughter of Herman G. Herzig, Sr. and Raigh M. (Caron) Herzig. Judy was a proud graduate of Arms Academy, Class of 1959.
Judy worked for many years in human resources at Kendall Mills Company, later known as American Fiber and Finishing, then worked at Greenfield Savings Bank, performing clerical duties, where she eventually retired. She was known for her dedication, warmth, and strong work ethic.
She is survived by her caring husband, Nelson Tetreault of Colrain; her two sons, Mark Bird and his wife Stephanie of Heath, and Martin Bird, Jr. and his wife Paula of Colrain; and four stepchildren; Kimberly, Lynn, David and Carmen. She also leaves behind her brother Herman G. Herzig, Jr. of Deerfield, her sister Betty Ann (Herzig) Cormier of Virginia, her grandchildren; Megan (Hillier) Stone, Kaitlyn (Bird) Cawthorn, Justin LeBeau, Lukas, Gabriel and Matthew Bird; as well as great grandchildren Abigail, Alexia, Judah and Elias Stone.
She was predeceased by her brother Edward Herzig and her first husband Martin Bird, Sr.
Judy will be remembered for her giving, thoughtful and loving heart. She also had a love for crafting-especially sewing and knitting. She found joy in spending time with her family and loved traveling, particularly to Maine to visit loved ones and enjoy the ocean with her husband. Her loving spirit and devotion to family will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
A Liturgy of Christion Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, May 14 at 10:00 am at St. John the Baptist Church in Colrain. Committal prayers will follow in West Branch Cemetery.
