Joseph Matysiewicz Obituary

Joseph John Matysiewicz (Joe), 83, of Stratford, CT (formerly of Trumbull, CT, Sunderland, MA, and Jensen Beach, FL), passed away with loved ones at this side on July 6, 2022.

Joe was born on October 5, 1938, to Adolf Matysiewicz and Sophie Reska Matysiewicz in Northhampton, MA. Joe grew up in Sunderland, MA, graduating from Amherst High School in 1956 where he was an accomplished athlete and made many lifelong friends. Joe served in the United States Navy from 1956-1959.

Joe became a jeweler and owned C.J. Jewelers in Trumbull, CT. He was known throughout the region as “Joe the Jeweler”. He took much pride in his work and continued in the trade even after C.J. Jewelers closed. In his retirement, Joe was often spotted plowing snow with his two pit bulls Diesel and Sophie by his side.

Joe was a charismatic and social guy who made friends wherever he went. In his youth he could be found dancing the night away, hitting the links, or waiting for his buddies at the 19th hole. Joe played and won many golf tournaments with a 7 handicap, clutch putts, and aced holes at Greenfield and Grassy Hill Country Clubs. He was a simple guy who loved life, family, his dogs, and friends.

Joe was predeceased by his beloved wife, Carlyn (Lynn) Matysiewicz (Person) who passed away in 1995. Joe is survived by his first wife, Marilyn Ross Matysiewicz, and his daughters Lisa Matysiewicz (Mike Noetzel), Kim Crosby (Olivier Crosby), Amy Dexter (Robert Dexter), Jodi Capozziello (Kenneth Haddad), Karla Matysiewicz (Jeff Garibotto), his grandchildren Robbie, Ross, Ryan, Reid, Mia and Wes, and his dog Josie.

A Memorial Mass will be held at Holy Name of Jesus in South Deerfield, followed by burial in Holy Name of Jesus P.N.C.C. Cemetery. Services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Joe’s name may be made to the CT Humane Society, 455 Post Rd E, Westport, CT 06880
