Janice R. (Lively) Barton, 86, passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at Baystate Franklin Medical Center.
Janice was born in Colrain on November 27, 1937, the second of seven children born to Theodore and Mable Mae (Coburn) Lively.
Always kind hearted and caring towards others, she worked at LaBelle’s Rest Home, the former Kendall Mills, Buckley Healthcare and Charlene Manor where she received several awards for her outstanding care for the residents. She also worked at the Adult Day Health Center in Greenfield and private care for people in their homes.
Janice was married to Linwood Rowland for many years, then married Gordon Patenaude and later, on April 11, 1997 she was married to Wendell L. Barton.
She loved to read and spend time with her family. She loved her children dearly, always willing to lend a hand when needed.
She was a three-time cancer survivor.
Her loving family includes her husband Wendell, her four children; Stephen Rowland, Michael Rowland, Kathleen Ryan, and David Rowland, six grandchildren, five great grandchildren, brothers Leander and John Lively, a sister Theresa Harris, her step-children Wendy, Lisa, Christal and Lance and their families, and several nieces and nephews.
Janice was predeceased by a child David who died shortly after birth, and her siblings Donald, Doris, Robert and Eleanor.
Visiting hours will be Friday, Aug. 2 from 5 to 7 pm at the Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home, 40 Church St., Shelburne Falls.
A Memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 3 at 11:00 am at the River Valley Christian Church, 345 West Leyden Rd., East Colrain. Burial will follow in West Leyden Cemetery.
