James A. Burgess, 74 of West Hartford, CT passed away on December 23, 2022 with his loving wife, Diane, by his side. Jim was the son of George and Marylin Burgess of Greenfield, MA. Jim grew up in Greenfield and graduated from Greenfield High School, class of 1967. He furthered his education at Wentworth Institute in Boston.
On February 10, 1979 he married Diane Carlson of West Hartford, Ct. They were married for 44 years. He is survived by his son, Bret (Nicole) Regan of Cohasset, Ma and granddaughters Avery and Emily whom he cherished. Sadly Jim was predeceased by his son Eric Burgess of Coral Springs, FL on August 12, 2020. Other survivors include Jim’s brothers, Jerry (Wendy) Burgess of Greenfield and Jeff (Andrea) Burgess of Holyoke.
Jim was proud to have served his country as a member of the US Army. He was stationed in Germany from 1969-1971 and was honorably discharged in 1975.
For the majority of his working career, Jim used his expertise working on jet engines at Pratt and Whitney in Middletown, CT. Jim was also a skilled carpenter and jack-of-all-trades. He worked many jobs on the side throughout CT. Jim was also a car enthusiast. During his younger years he spent his spare time working on his Mustangs and Austin Healeys, and cruising around town.
The most important thing to Jim was his family. He enjoyed cooking on the grill and entertaining family by the pool. He was a great host. Jim will be remembered for his compassion and unselfishness. He would always take care of others before himself. A relaxing day for Jim was taking his Rescue dogs, Belle and Jack, for a long walk and settling in on the couch to watch his favorite team, the N.E. Patriots.
There will be a private graveside service at Fairview Cemetery, W. Hartford, CT in the near future.
