Jacqueline Weir Obituary

Jacqueline A. “Jackie” (Haselton) Weir, 89, formerly of Hinsdale Rd., Northfield, passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at the Buckley Health Care Center in Greenfield.

Jackie was born in Greenfield on April 17, 1931, one of seven children of Harry and Gweneth (Yates) Haselton.

On September 18, 1948 she was married to Lawrence Weir. They celebrated 55 years together until his passing on May 1, 2004.

Jackie was a life-long member of St. James Episcopal Church, now The Episcopal Church of Saints James and Andrew. She was an active member of the church community over the years as part of the Episcopal Church Women, the Alter Guild and a volunteer at the annual church fair. Jackie loved her church and the church family.

She was a big fan of the UConn Women’s Basketball team and enjoyed traveling to see their games or watching the games from the comfort of her home. Jackie could also be seen at local high school basketball and softball games watching her great niece play.

Jackie was a devoted wife to her husband Larry and loving mother to her children whom she leaves behind; son Paul D. Weir and his wife Gail of Omaha, NE, son Lawrence A. Weir of Montague, son Christopher E. Weir and his wife Jamie of Archdale, NC, a sister Sheila Graves of Greenfield, two grandsons, a granddaughter, eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband Larry, Jackie was tragically predeceased by her grandson Nicholas “Nick” Weir this past summer.

Jackie’s family wishes to gratefully acknowledge the nurses and staff at the Buckley Health Care Center. From the moment she arrived into their care, Jackie felt welcomed to a new home with all the care, compassion and laughter one could wish for. Her family is truly thankful and most appreciative.

A graveside service will take place in Northfield Farms Cemetery in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, it is requested memorial contributions be made to either the Rector’s Discretionary Fund, 8 Church St., Greenfield, MA 01301 or to the Dickinson Memorial Library, 115 Main St., Northfield, MA 01360
