Irene F. (McClorey) Bottego, 72, of Little Mohawk Rd., passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 18, 2022.
Irene was born in Floral Park, NY on February 28, 1950 the daughter of Andrew and Margaret (Lewin) McClorey. She grew up in Huntington Station, NY and graduated from Walt Whitman High School in 1968. She later received an associate degree in Accounting and Management from Greenfield Community College in 1981.
On August 31, 1968 she was married to Richard F. Bottego. The ceremony took place on Long Island. They moved to the area in 1971, settling in Keene, NH, then Greenfield and finally Shelburne in 1999. Irene designed the floor plan and was a critical part in building their home in Shelburne.
Irene was employed by Donald Graves, CPA for a time and when her husband Richard opened his business in 1984, Richard’s Automotive, she became the bookkeeper for the family business.
In her free time Irene enjoyed working with stained glass, photography, music, and walking with her son Richard, Jr. Irene was most passionate about her garden and the beauty it provided throughout the growing season. On of her favorite places to visit was the Bridge of Flowers.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Richard Sr., their daughter Lisa M. Bottego of Colrain, brothers Andrew and Dennis McClorey, two sisters; Peggy (Kenneth) LaCoille and Jeanette (Joel) Paige, great niece Sierra Tartter of Montague, sisters-in-law; Lynn (George) Miko and Julie (Thomas) VerPault, many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Sadly Irene was predeceased by her son Richard Jr. and a sister Regina Capo.
Calling hours will be Thursday, 12/22 from 6 to 8 pm at the Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home, 40 Church St., Shelburne Falls.
A funeral service will take place Friday, 12/23 at 11:00 am, at the funeral home. Burial services will follow in Arms Cemetery, Shelburne Falls.
