Helen Elizabeth Gould passed away March 30, 2023 at home in Shelburne.
She was born Helen Elizabeth Woodard on May 25, 1927 in Greenfield, MA to parents Frank and Rose (Steiner) Woodard.
Helen married Edgar A. Gould on October 12, 1945, as she was in love with him and his Morgan horse “Mickey”. Together Edgar and Helen had six children and operated a diversified farm on Cooperlane Rd in Shelburne. Together they built and operated Gould’s Sugar House on the Mohawk Trail. Helen took much pride in and was given much credit for the success of the Sugar House. She truly enjoyed the returning visitors and loved working with the cooks and waitresses until she retired at the age of 92. She has remained connected to many, others were life-long friends.
Helen was also a 4-H leader in her younger years, member of the Shelburne Grange, an avid “trick or treater”, snowmobile enthusiast and frequent visitor to Disney World. She was honored to be the Grand Marshall in Shelburne’s 250th parade in 2018.
Helen is survived by five of her children; Launie and Tony York of Shelburne, Linda and Jim Herrera of Shelburne, Lorraine and David Shippee of North Haverhill, NH, Leonard Gould and Cathy Chagnon of Greenfield, Larry and Karen Gould of Shelburne, as well as 10 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren.
Helen was predeceased by her husband Edgar, daughter Louise and grandson Eric York.
Five years ago Helen “threw” herself a 90th birthday bash at the family farm in Shelburne….she said “it’s a lot more fun to plan your birthday party than your funeral!”
A private graveside service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
