Guy Stevens Obituary

Guy L. Stevens, 90, of Shelburne Rd., passed away Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at Charlene Manor.

Guy was born in Rumford Corner, Maine on November 21, 1930, one of the 14 children of Joseph and Eula (Hall) Stevens. His family moved to the Greenfield area when he was a child and he attended local schools.

A veteran of the US Army, Guy served as a medic while stationed in Germany.

Guy worked at Oxford Pickle in South Deerfield as a foreman for over 20 years. He then moved on to Vincent & Williams Construction Company as a carpenter. Guy was a very talented handyman and in retirement he established a long list of customers, primarily older couples who needed someone to do little projects around their home.

Guy was a gentle, loving and generous man who was forever available to help anyone in their time of need. He had a tremendous sense of humor, loved to eat just about anything (especially sweets), a NY Giants football fan, and always made it a point to say “thank you”. He attended most of the many of the games his 7 grandsons played in over the years.

On July 11, 1953 he was married to Margaret “Peg” (Dedinas) and recently celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary. They enjoyed traveling together on many cruises and trips to Disney over the years,

Guy leaves behind his loving and devoted wife Peg, two daughters; Karen Lovett and husband Dann Emerson of Colrain, Kathleen Thomas of Greenfield, son-in-law Philip Patterson, 7 grandsons; Scott and Jason Underwood, Matthew and Timothy Lovett, Christopher, Matthew and Nathan Thomas, 6 great grandchildren; Logan and Taylor Underwood, Guy and Reagan Thomas, Lauryn and Alexis Lovett, 3 brothers; Albert, Philip and Alfred Stevens, 2 sisters; Beverly Parent and Sally Lebier, and many, many nieces and nephews.

Sadly, Guy was predeceased by a daughter Kristine Patterson and siblings Joseph, John, Arthur, Richard, Margaret, Pauline, Phyllis and Alberta.

Services for Guy will be private and burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, it is requested memorial contributions be made to either Pioneer Valley Hospice & Palliative Care, 329 Conway St., Greenfield, MA 01301 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl, Memphis, TN 38105 or online at www.stjude.org/donate.
