Gregory R “Greg” Herzig, 66, of Adamsville Rd., died on April 12, 2023 as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle/car accident.
Greg was born in Greenfield on October 17, 1956 the son of Roger and Rose (Hayes) Herzig. From an early age Greg taught himself how to build, repair or create just about anything. He created his first doodle-bug around the age of 12 by piecing together various parts and getting the engine to run. Over the years he developed the ability to look at a problem and patiently come up with a solution. Whether it be a custom part that had to be made by hand or how to get an old engine to run again, he could do it. Neighbors and friends brought Greg many different projects that they gave up on, only to watch Greg bring it back to life.
Greg was a lover of dogs, motorcycles, jeeps and being alone logging in the woods. Logging was his occupation but being outside in the woods was his biggest enjoyment. Greg could be a little cantankerous at times and a bit of a loner but deep down he had a heart of gold. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for a friend or a neighbor.
He was admired for his quick wit and sense of humor.
Greg is survived by his two brothers; Marvin (Charity) Herzig of Winchester, NH, and Stephen (Jacqueline) Herzig of Colrain, three sisters; Kathleen (Richard) Handlowich of Pittsfield, MA, Penny Clark of Shelburne Falls and Nancy Kugler (partner Steve Thayer) of Charlemont, seven nieces, ten nephews, twenty-nine great nieces & nephews and three great-great niece & nephews.
A graveside service will be held at a time and date to be announced.
