Dorothy Liberator Obituary

Dorothy L (Hanley) Liberator “Dotty”, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2021.  She was the wife of the late Andrew D. Liberator.

Dotty was born on December 22, 1931 in Brockton, MA.  She was the daughter of J. Murray Hanley and Marion (Shearing) Hanley.

The 7th of 8 children, Dotty loved telling stories about growing up in a large family in Brockton, MA.  Dotty was a graduate of Brockton High School class of 1949.  She worked at Raytheon in Waltham, MA. and later at H.A. DeNunzio, Co. in Somers, CT.   In 1960, she married Andrew D. “Andy” Liberator.  Together they raised three wonderful children, Dan, MaryAnne & Sarah primarily in Somers, CT.  Dotty was a lifelong devote Catholic and was active in her church.  She was quick-witted and had a contagious laugh.  Dotty loved to sing & was known for randomly breaking out into song.  But nothing made Dotty happier than spending time with friends and family.

Dotty is survived by her children Dan Liberator & his wife Lori of Phoenix, AZ, MaryAnne McSparran & her husband P.J. of West Dover, VT and Sarah Liberator of Seattle, WA; her siblings Joseph Hanley and his wife Marie, Lois Conley and Kathleen Coughlan and her husband Ronald and many nieces & nephews.  She was predeceased by her sisters Mary Rose Giles, Geraldine Fortier, Patricia Mulligan and Ruth McNeill and her brother-in-law Bill Liberator and sister-in-law Nan Hogan Liberator.

The Liberator & Hanley families express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Buckley HealthCare Center in Greenfield, MA for the wonderful care they provided to Dotty.  They would also like to thank her best friend Eileen Herman & her entire family for their friendship, care & support over the years.

A funeral mass will be celebrated for the repose of her soul on Monday, April 12th at St. Joseph Church 34 Monroe Ave, Shelburne Falls, MA at 11:00am.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Resident Council Fund @ Buckley HealthCare Center in Greenfield, MA or New England Hospice in Dotty’s name.
