Donald Ward Obituary

Donald E. Ward, 91, of Charlemont Rd., passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on April 20, 2023.

Don was born in Buckland on March 24, 1932, one of the 7 children of Nelson E. and Blanche E. (Wilder) Ward. He attended local schools and graduated from Arms Academy in Shelburne Falls.

Don enlisted in the United States Navy on February 6, 1952 and served aboard the USS Sturtevant until his honorable discharge on January 27, 1956.

Don started his family business, Ward Plumbing and Heating in 1967, and retired in 1995. Over the years he provided services to countless friends and neighbors all over Franklin County.

In his free time Don enjoyed hunting and fishing, woodworking, watching the birds, and solving puzzles. He cherished his many happy times with his close friends.

His favorite spot was gazing at the view from outside the kitchen window, seated in his rocking chair next to his wife Shirley. For Don, every day began with a kiss on his cheek from his loving wife Shirley.

Don is survived by his beloved wife of over 70 years, Shirley Ann (Copley) Ward, son Dale Ward (Martha) of Buckland, daughter Kathy Jurentkuff (Steve) of Buckland, daughter Dawn Longley Fuller (Rod) of CT, grandchildren; Donny (Katie) Longley, Laura Longley, Meagan Ruffing, Jared (Melissa) Jurentkuff, Melissa Jurentkuff, Emily (Morrie) Raupp, Brandon (Ashley) Ward, Tristan (Erica) Ward, Bria (Jake) Thurber, Tiffany (Adam) Scott, 10 great grandchildren, his brother Robert Ward (Alice) of Michigan, and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Don was predeceased by sisters Beverly Wall, Alma Shippee, Ruth Ann Cronk and brothers Russell and Richard Ward.

Services for Don will be private.
