Dennis Rancourt Obituary

Dennis X. Rancourt, 75, of Mountain Rd., passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at Charlene Manor Extended Care Facility in Greenfield.

Dennis was born in Brattleboro, VT on August 17, 1946, the son of Francis Rancourt and Livia (Maroni) Rancourt. He grew up in Shelburne Falls, MA, and was a graduate of Arms Academy where he was a standout athlete on the football field, basketball court and on the baseball diamond.  Dennis attended George Washington University in Washington, D.C., where he later lived for a brief period of time.

After returning to Shelburne falls, Dennis married Annie (Harris) on January 30, 1967; the couple recently celebrated more than 55 years together.

Dennis worked as a Lineman for the Western Mass. Electric Co., which later became Northeast Utilities. He retired from NU as a transmission supervisor after serving for over 40 years.

As a proud fan of all sports, Dennis played for the Men’s Softball League on the VFW team for many years.  He was key member of the group responsible for bringing the lights to the Cricket Field, which ushered in a new era of night softball and baseball for future generations.

When he and Annie moved with their three children to Charlemont, Dennis became a coach for the Little League team, continuing his love of the game.  For many years, he also was involved with the Special Olympics and worked with Special Olympians taking great pride in coaching and mentoring many of these athletes.

He was a member of the Charlemont Federated Church, and served on the Board of Health in Charlemont for several years.  Dennis was a proud member of the Sons of Italy, and was also a Mason with the Republican Lodge of Masons in Greenfield.

Dennis was a lover of all animals, big and small, and made certain to fill his home with  many pets, big and small, who all quickly became dear members of the family.  He had strong ties to the community and was always willing to help a friend, a neighbor, and even a stranger if they were in need.  His larger than life presence will be missed by all those who knew him.

Beside his loving wife Annie, his family includes their two daughters; Denise Rancourt of Shelburne Falls and Erinn Rancourt-Fleming of Carver, MA, son Sean Rancourt of Charlemont, grandchildren Brandon, Jacob, Logan, Tess and Sam, great grandchildren Carter, Lucy, Hunter, Ivy, Vanessa and Bailey, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family has decided to honor Dennis with a memorial service that will be held this later in the Spring.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the MSPCA, or Shriner's Hospital
