Constance LaPointe Obituary

Constance (Connie) Annette LaPointe Rezendes passed away December 18, 2020 at the Arbors of Greenfield, Massachusetts after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease and Vascular Dementia. Her family and dedicated private caregivers were by her side.

Born in Van Buren, Maine on October 12, 1929, Connie started working at the age of 17 as the administrative assistant for a local insurance company. After marrying Dennis Rezendes in 1950, she followed him to Los Alamos, New Mexico where he finished his tour of duty in the United States Air Force. She supported him through undergraduate school at the University of Maine in Bangor, Maine and graduate school in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Afterwards, they settled in New Haven, Connecticut where they raised their two children.

Connie finished her own education by attending night school at Paier College of Art in Hamden, Connecticut, earning a degree in Interior Design. She worked as an interior designer in New Haven before landing a job running the furniture and interior design department at Lord & Taylor in West Hartford, Connecticut. Later she started her own successful business servicing important clients such as Cadbury Schweppes, Yale University, and the Connecticut State Capitol.

In 1994 Connie relocated to Deerfield, Massachusetts to be close to her daughter and her two growing grandsons.

Connie surrounded herself with great friends, laughter and a beautiful home filled with lovely furniture, dishes and artwork she had collected over the years as an interior designer. Her greatest passion was color. Over the years she also became an accomplished amateur chef and baker. Her friends and family will always remember her amazing pies and French tarts.

Connie leaves behind her daughter Cheryl Rezendes Rulewich (husband Alan), her son Michael Rezendes, her two grandsons August (wife Vivian) and Brook Rulewich, step-grandson Scott Rulewich, many nieces and nephews, and her longtime companion Norman De Bastiani.

The second oldest of 10 children, Connie is survived by her brother Tom LaPointe (wife Doris), her brother John LaPointe (wife Rolande), and her sister Teresa Lessard.

Connie was a wonderful friend and host. She will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends including Nicole Gould and her beloved French group; the folks at Circolo; her Sunday morning coffee group; Linda Bisi; and Lisa and Brian Laprade, who have always been supportive of Connie and her family.

Because of the complications of COVID-19, a memorial service will be held in 2021 when it is safe for people to gather.

The family would like to thank Connie’s private caregivers, Kim, Liz, Tasia and Hailey for their amazing compassion, love and devoted personal care of Connie during the last several months of her life. They would like to thank the staff at the Arbors especially Cindy, Carla, Carol and Jennifer and are extremely grateful to Hospice, especially Annette, Connie’s nurse.

Please make donations in Connie’s name to Pioneer Valley Hospice & Palliative Care, 329 Conway Street #2, Greenfield, MA 01301.
