Beverly Ann Phillips (Shaw), 85 died Friday September 1st 2023, at Greenfield Rehabilitation and Nursing Center surrounded by her daughters. Born on September 11, 1937 in Greenfield, she was the daughter of Walter & Jennie Shaw (Tkaczyk).
She was a graduate of Arms Academy. She was a Lady of the VFW Auxiliary in Shelburne Falls. Beverly also became a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked her career of nursing at the Anchorage Nursing Home in Shelburne. While her daughters attended Mohawk Trail Regional High School she worked as a Special Ed Aide. Beverly’s nursing career was one of being an evening shift worker which impacted her ability to attend sporting events but she did coach the Cheerleaders at Mohawk for the years that Mary cheered.
She was an avid crafter and loved to crochet. At one point she even opened her own craft supply shop out of her home on Anderson Road. Beverly was an elegant dancer and loved to Polka.
Beverly was committed to exposing her children to different cultures. She hosted several Japanese exchange students and was also a very big supporter of The Fresh Air Fund started by Ruth Anderson. Beverly even volunteered with her niece Vicky to make the trek to the Port Authority in NYC to pick up the group traveling to the countryside for two weeks. She was particularly motivated by one of the children, April who stayed with our family for the entire duration of her tenure with the program. She became a part of our family returning annually on her own. April Doran has been included in every family milestone in all of our lives as we are in her life too.
Survivors include her sister Becky Peck of Florida, 3 sons, Ralph of Ohio, Billy (William) of Pittsfield, Todd of Florida and her three daughters Mary (wife Danica, Michelle both of Greenfield and April of Connecticut. She also had 17 grandchildren Jenny, Melissa, Adam, Brittany, Jay, Marie, Courtney, Kaleb, Alexis, Jesse, Jay, Jason, Jacob, Avery, Lucas, David and Caitie. She also had several great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband Ralph in 2005, second husband Allen Taylor in 2017, her sister Phyllis Schempp in 1999, and her son Ricky in 2010.
Visiting hours will be Friday, Sept. 8 from 4 to 7 pm, at the Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home, 40 Church St., Shelburne Falls.
