Leslie C. Ladd, 82, of Hawley Road, Ashfield died Thursday, June 22, at home.

He was born in Colrain, December 22, 1934, the son of Clayton and Alice (Prouty) Ladd.

He was a 1954 graduate of Arms Academy in Shelburne Falls.  He enlisted in the US Air Force on Feb. 28, 1955 and was honorably discharged on December 12, 1958.

Prior to retirement he was highway superintendent for the Town of Ashfield for several years.  Previously he was highway superintendent for the Town of Shelburne.

Les was a longtime member of the Shelburne Falls Kiwanis Club and an avid golfer and member of the Ashfield Community Golf Club.

He is survived by his wife the former Barbara Faulkner whom he married April 7, 1991.

Survivors besides his wife include his step-son Steven Hoar of Buckland, 2 step-daughters Peggy (Richard) Preiser of Delray, Florida, Sherri (Dan) Kelleher of Estero, Florida; 1 brother Richard Ladd of Charlemont; grandchildren Christi Raye Preiser, Brian Preiser, Amanda and Kirsten Kelleher, Ryan and Tim Hoar and many nieces and nephews. 

He was predeceased by 2 sisters Louise Snow, Mae Williams and 1 brother Ernest Dubie.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 27 at 10:00 am at Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home in Shelburne Falls.  Rev. Rich Fournier, pastor, of the Mary Lyon Church in Buckland, will officiate.  Burial will be in Plain Cemetery, Ashfield.

Calling hours will be Monday evening from 6-8 at the funeral home.

It is suggested donations be made to either Hospice of Franklin County, 329 Conway St., Greenfield, Ma 01301 or to the Ashfield Golf Course, c/o Charles Stetson, 29 Potters Road, Rowe, Ma. 01367.
