Rollena F. Tetreault) McCarthy, 94, passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2016
Rollena was born in Greenfield on April 12, 1922 the daughter of Adelard and Bertha (Smith) Tetreault. She was a graduate of Greenfield High School as a member of the class of 1940.
On January 5, 1946 she was married to Roy D. McCarthy, celebrating 61 years together. Roy predeceased Rollena on January 18, 2007.
For many years she assisted her husband Roy and his brother Harold, in the services of the McCarthy Funeral Homes. She also assisted her father-in-law George McCarthy in operations at McCarthy the Clothier in Greenfield.
Rollena was a former member of the Emblem Club in association with the Greenfield Lodge of Elks.
She was a communicant of Holy Trinity Church and Blessed Sacrament Church.
Rollena and Roy could often be found near the ball field or basketball court watching their grandchildren and great grandchildren play.
Rollena was a wonderful lady who was admired by all who knew her. She will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her two daughters; Linda A. Haines of Westborough, MA, Marilyn Cogswell and her husband Mark of Greenfield, five grandsons; Robert (Christie) Haines, Jeffrey (Maria) Haines, Kyle (Lesley) Cogswell, Luke Cogswell and Nicolas Cogswell, seven great grandchildren; Ryan, Meghan, Mason, Payton and Charlotte Haines, Jackson and Camden Cogswell, as well as nieces and cousins.
In addition to her husband Roy, she was predeceased by a brother Richard Tetreault and a son-in-law Peter Haines.
Calling hours will be Friday, May 13 from 6 to 8 pm at the Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home, 87 Franklin St., Greenfield.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Msgr. Ronald G. Yargeau on Saturday May 14 at 10:00 am at Holy Trinity Church, 133 Main St. Greenfield. Burial services will follow in Green River Cemetery.
Prior to the Mass, visitation will take place at the funeral home beginning at 9:00 am
Rollena's family wishes to thank the Staff at The Arbors of Greenfield and the Staff at Buckley Health Care Center for their wonderful care and attention given to Rollena in her time of need.
