George E. "Ducky" Ovitt, 80, passed away at home on Friday, April 8, 2016.

Ducky was born in Ashfield, MA on June 4, 1930 one of 13 children of the late Ralph B. and Lillian (Dufresne) Ovitt. He attended the one-room school house on Steady Lane and then moved on to Sanderson Academy.

He was employed by Lamson & Goodnow Cutlery in Buckland for 34 years, retiring as a supervisor in 1993. Always one to be active, he then went on to become a packer for GBI, Inc. in Bernardston.

At one time, Ducky served as a volunteer for the Shelburne Falls Fire Department and attained the rank of Captain. He was also a member of the Shelburne Falls Eagles.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Northfield.

Ducky was proud of the things he built and maintained them to appear as they were new. He built the home he and his wife Eileen shared as well as others. He was very skilled with his hands.

Survivors include his wife of over 41 years, the former Eilenn (Dexter), his son Timothy Ovitt and wife Lindy of Greenfield, his step-children; Diane Renaud of Chicopee, MA, Mark Renaud and his wife Elisabeth of Easthampton, MA, Eric Renaud and his wife Eileen of Albany, NY, Joyce Cunningham of Bernardston, three brothers; David Ovitt of Florida, Bill Ovitt of Bernardston, Carson Ovitt of Charlemont, MA, four sisters; Shirley Demers of Buckland, MA, Elsie O'Dell of Shrewsbury, MA, Edie Kelleher of Charlemont, MA, Dixie Hill of Buckland, MA, five grandchildren; Nicole Giard, Christina Cunningham, Samantha, Nicolas and Lucas Scanu, a great grandson Anthony Borweic, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ducky was predeceased by his siblings; Ralph, Robert and Roger Ovitt, Joyce Bezio and Alice White.

A funeral service will be held Friday, April 15 at 11:00 am at the Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home, 87 Franklin St., Greenfield, MA.

Visiting hours will precede the service from 9:00 am until 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, it is requested memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Franklin County, 329 Conway St., Greenfield, MA 01301
