William Randall Obituary

William E. “Bill” Randall, 96, of Long Ave., passed away on Sept. 13, 2024 at Baystate Franklin Medical Center.

Bill was born in Websterville, VT on February 20, 1928 one of ten children of Robert W. and Bell M. (Ring) Randall. He was a graduate of Barre (VT) High School, Fordham University and the Harold Bagg School of Broadcasting.

He had a long career in the radio broadcasting industry. He started in Vermont where he grew up, at WHWB in Rutland and then with WDEV in Waterbury. He then came to Greenfield and WHAI. His primary role at stations was to be an account executive but at WHAI he also became a broadcaster at local sporting events. The final station affiliation was with WTTT in Amherst which later became WRNX.

After retiring from the radio business, Bill found the one job he truly enjoyed, a produce stocker at Foster’s Supermarket. His task was the potatoes and onions. He looked forward to seeing the customers on a daily basis, old friends, new friends and first timers. He was very comfortable being part of a family owned, community store.

Bill was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church for many years. He was part of the group of parishioners who help establish the Adoration Chapel at the church.  He served as Eucharistic minister with Fr. Campoli at the Saturday Masses for inmates at the Franklin County Jail for over 35 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 133 in Greenfield. He held the title of Grand Knight and also served as the District Deputy traveling to other Councils providing support and guidance.
