Russell Wissman Obituary

Russell A. Wissman, 86, passed away at home on Friday, August 8, 2025 with his loving wife Margie by his side.

Russ was born in Greenfield, MA on September 18, 1938 the son of Edward and Dorothy (Smith) Wissman. He attended local schools, graduated from Arms Academy and received a degree in Engineering from what is now the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth.

His career as a textile engineer began with the Kendall Mills company in Colrain and lasted for several years. Early on, he and his family moved to North Carolina for the company and lived there for a number of years before moving back and settling in Greenfield.

An athlete since he was a boy growing up in Shelburne Falls, Russ was always on the move. He played baseball, football and basketball in high school, played on men’s softball teams in North Carolina and locally, was an avid golfer and member of the Greenfield Country Club, enjoyed snowmobiling with his son Derrick, and had been a hunter since he was a young man. The family would take trips to Maine every year and also go on camping trips.

He liked visiting friends and family, having them over to his home or visiting them at theirs, it was always a time filled with laughter and good times. Oftentimes you would find him holding his Miller Lite or at least having one close by. He was a fan of the Patriots and Tom Brady and enjoyed teasing fans of other teams, especially family members.

He leaves behind his loving wife Marjorie (Turner) whom he married on October 13, 1962, brother Dave (Pat) Wissman of Spofford, NH, his daughter-in-law Monica Wissman of Florida, MA, son-in-law David Lewis of Turners Falls, grandchildren Jalen, Kirby, Kasha, Miranda, Jacob “Jake”, and Shelby, great grandchildren McKenna, Blair, Wren, Bennett, Mason, Ayla and Lawson, sister-in-law Marion Spears, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Sadly he was predeceased by his daughter Deborah “Debbie” Lewis in 2011, his son Derrick in 2024, and brother Ronnie who was killed while serving in Vietnam.

A graveside service will be held Friday, August 15 at 11:00 am in Arms Cemetery in Shelburne Falls.

Papa says, “Time for a Sambuca!”
