Roberta P. (Herzig) Purington

Roberta P. (Herzig) Purington, 77, formerly of Avery Brook Rd., passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, July 26, 2022.

Roberta was born in Colrain on May 29, 1945 the daughter of Howard and Eva (Giard) Herzig, Sr. She was married to Roger Purington, Sr. on November 4, 1961.

She was employed in the food service department at what was then the Franklin Medical Center, now Baystate Franklin Medical for many years.

Roberta was a big fan of country music and traveled to many shows and festivals with her husband. They each loved to travel and found themselves in such places as Bermuda or the Canadian Rockies. When Roger retired, Roberta also retired so they could continue to travel.

Sadly Roger predeceased Roberta in 2018.

Survivors include her 5 children; Roger Purington, Jr of Buckland, Kevin Purington, Sr of Monroe, MA, Darlene Corbeil of Shelburne Falls, Connie Sherman of Rowe and Barbara Dyer of Buckland, her 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 3 brothers; Howard Herzig of Pochahontas, VA, Carl Herzig of Colrain, and Rudolph Herzig of Conway, a sister Gloria Tatro of Colrain, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Roberta was predeceased by a son John Purington, brother Wallace Herzig and sister Leah Herzig.

Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, Aug. 2 from 6 to 8 pm at the Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home, 40 Church St., Shelburne Falls.

Roberta’s funeral service will be Wednesday, Aug. 3, at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Burial services will immediately follow in West Branch Cemetery in Colrain.

In lieu of flowers, Roberta always enjoyed having lunch with a friend so in her memory, take a friend to lunch!
