Mary K. (Akey) Sokolosky, 93, passed away peacefully on the evening of Sunday, January 1, 2023.Mary was born in Montague, MA on February 7, 1929 the daughter of Clifford and Marie (Fisher) Akey. She graduated from Greenfield High School as a member of the class of 1947, attended Albertus Magnus College and graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1951.
On June 13, 1953 Mary was married to Eugene E. Sokolosky and together they celebrated over 51 years. Eugene predeceased Mary in 2004.
Mary was a wonderful, loving wife and mother to her six children.
Outside the home, she was a devoted volunteer to the local community. She spent many hours contributing her time to the Thrift Shop, the Greenfield Survival Center, and the Alternatives Pregnancy Center where she had served as Director for many years.
Mary’s family includes her six children; Barbara (Glenn) Meloni of Natick, MA, Suesan Fisher of Naples, FL, Mary Jean (Dave) Labbe of Kittery Point, ME, Sam (Cathy) Sokolosky of Shelburne, MA, Jane (Bob) Rockwell of Barrington, RI, Paula Nulty of White River Junction, VT, a brother Harold Akey of W. Springfield, MA, grandchildren; Andrew, Sarah, Elizabeth, Benjamin, Nathaniel, Ali, Emily, Laura, John, Sam, Nick, Julia, Christopher and Jonathan, great grandchildren; Tyler, Isabelle, Mabel, Margaret, Bristol, Eugene, Amelia, Evelyn, Levi, Edison and Ayla, as well as nieces and nephews.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, 1/5/23, at 11:00 am at Holy Trinity Church, 133 Main St., Greenfield. Committal prayers will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
