Arthur Adams Obituary

Arthur P. Adams, 91, formerly of Neilson Rd., passed away May 20, 2022 at Athol Memorial Hospital.

Art was born in Ashfield, MA on January 4, 1931 the son of Perley and Evelyn (Sprague) Adams. He attended Arms Academy in Shelburne Falls but left early to enlist in the US Air Force at the age of 17.

Art served in Korea and performed two tours of duty in Vietnam. In total, Art served in the US Air Force for 23 years and retired with rank of Staff Sergeant.

During his service he received his GED and later attended the University of Maryland.

A machinist by trade, Art was employed by Bernardston Equipment before moving on to L.S. Starrett in Athol for 15 years. His final employment before retirement in 1995 was with Bete Fog Nozzle in Greenfield.

Arthur was never a man to sit idle. He was a private pilot for several years. An avid fisherman, hiker, woodworker and was a member of the Northfield Golf Club until 5 years ago. He was always working on improving his property, and lending a helping hand to his neighbors on their projects. His humor was witty, and colorful. Near the end he would not say goodbye, but say "stay pure".

Art’s first wife, Norma M. (Galbraith) Adams predeceased him on March 9, 1994. He was later married to Linda (Sabia) Adams in 1998 and she predeceased him April 18, 2021.

He was formerly a member of the Mountain Lodge of Masons in Shelburne Falls.

Survivors include his sister Winifred Herron of North Adams, his grandchildren; Michelle Adams, Jeff Adams, Stacie Splittgerber, Stephanie Winslow, and Alex Crane. Great grandchildren: Jamie, Olivia, Madison, Amariah, Hannah, Sean, and Collin. Step-son Matthew Crane, and stepdaughter Molly Crane.

In addition to his wives, Art was also predeceased by son Stephen Adams, daughter Patti Couture, Brother Earl Warriner, sisters Shirley Miller, and Donna Mazanec. Grandson Stephen Adams.

A graveside service with military honors will be held Friday, May 27 at 1:00 pm at East Colrain Cemetery (aka Brick Cemetery) located on Shelburne Line Rd. in Colrain.
