Dorothy I. (Howard) Herzig

 Dorothy I. (Howard) Herzig, 83, formerly of Cedar St., died Friday, November 10, 2017 at the Charlene Manor Extended Care Facility.

     Dorothy was born in Yonkers, NY on October 25, 1934 the daughter of John Howard and Minnie Lashua.

     Throughout her life Dorothy was very active and she had many interests. She had been employed by the ARC of Franklin County, the Greenfield School System as a crossing guard and bus monitor, spent time assisting as a dog groomer, and most recently she was a dietary aid at a local nursing home. She also enjoyed her time as a volunteer at the Franklin Medical Center.

     In her free time Dorothy liked to feed the birds and watch them at the feeder, she was a league bowler who looked forward to the conversations and competition at the league matches, she loved to crochet and give her blankets and creations away to family and friends, loved animals of all kinds, and loved the ocean.

     Dorothy adored her family and was most happy when they were together. Whether in a phone conversation or in person, her family could feel her unconditional love and support. She was a very kind woman with a very kind heart and she will be missed by many.

     Dorothy’s cherished family includes a son Richard W. Herzig of Greenfield, four daughters; Linda LaPoint and her husband Richard of Winchester, NH, Patricia Gaffey and her husband James of Orange, Susan Newell and her husband David of Greenfield, and Wendy J. Herzig of Greenfield, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

     Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Richard C. Herzig and a son Edward D. Herzig.

     A graveside service will take place Wednesday, November 15, at 1:00 pm at the West Branch Cemetery in Colrain.

     There are no calling hours.
