Doris M. (Holmes) Hughes

     Doris M. (Holmes) Hughes, 92, of Dragon Hill, died Monday, January 1, 2018 at Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield.

     Doris was born in Queens, NY on December 17, 1925 the daughter of Edward and Bertha (Harrop) Holmes. After graduating from high school she attended the Catherine Gibbs Secretarial School in New York.

     As an executive secretary for a number of years, Doris worked for the architectural firm known as Fox and Fowle as well as Christie’s Auction House, both located in New York City.

     Doris and her husband Francis moved to Shelburne in 1990. Doris was active as a volunteer at Historic Deerfield and the Gift Shop at Baystate Franklin Medical Center and enjoyed her membership at the Greenfield YMCA and the Shelburne Senior Center.

    At home she loved flowers, her garden and her cat Domino.

     Doris is survived by her son James Hughes and his wife Hemsley, grandson William and granddaughter Cate all of Glendale, NY, nieces and nephews including Judi Webster of Bernardston, her cat Domino, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.

     Doris was predeceased by her husband Francis on April 6, 2000 and sister June Gephardt on December 9, 2017.

     A Liturgy of Christian Burial will take place Saturday at Holy Trinity Church, 133 Main St., Greenfield at 11:00 am. Committal prayers will follow in Arms Cemetery in Shelburne.

     A visiting hour will be Saturday from 9 to 10:30 at the Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home, 87 Franklin St., Greenfield

     In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the charity of one’s choice.
