Catherine “Kay” T. (Gaffigan) Purdy, 86, of 2 School Street, Buckland died Thursday, Sept. 13, at Buckley Healthcare Facility in Greenfield.
She was born in Buckland, January 4, 1932, the daughter of William P. and Minnie T. (Vincent) Gaffigan.
For 40 years she was employed by Keystone Market in Shelburne Falls when it was under the ownership of the late George Needham. She retired in 2006.
Kay was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Shelburne Falls. She was also a member of the VFW Post 8503 Auxiliary and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary both in Shelburne Falls.
She was an avid Yankees fan !
She was the widow of Kenneth Purdy who died in 1990 and the widow of her second husband Albert Williams.
Survivors include 4 daughters Ann M. (Michael) Braziel of Shelburne Falls, Carol A. (Keith) Schempp of Buckland, Cheryl L. Purdy of Greenfield, Cindy M. Sall of Buckland; 8 grandchildren Brian Betit, Melissa Graves, Laura Betit, Theresa Cavanna, Brendan Sall, Holly Braziel, Lauren Rice, and Ashley Braziel; and 9 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother William Gaffigan and sister Mary Tatro.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Monday, Sept. 17, at 11:00 am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in Arms Cemetery.
There will be calling hour from 10:00 to 10:45 am at Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home in Shelburne Falls.
