Doris M. Taylor, 98, formerly of Greenfield, passed peacefully at Linda Manor Assisted Living Facility.
She was born in Maynard, MA the daughter of William Charles Newman and Louise Maude (Wilson) Newman and was educated at schools in Maynard.
During WW2 Doris worked for Clifford Mfg Co. in Waltham. After the war she worked for Boston Edison in Maynard until she married her high school classmate Edwin R. Taylor. Doris and Ed moved from Maynard to Webster while starting a family - eventually moving with their three young boys to Rowe for the opening of Yankee Atomic Electric in 1959.
When her boys were grown, Doris returned to work at Wilson’s Department Store.
Doris and Ed relocated from Rowe to Greenfield in 1983 and spent winters in Zephyrhills, FL
Doris was a wonderful Mom and Grammy and she will forever live on in our hearts. She loved cooking and hosting family get-togethers. She also enjoyed knitting, crossword puzzles, and games, and took special joy in playing with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her three sons: James and his wife Susan of Kingfield, ME, grandson Joshua (wife Lisa Shippee) and granddaughter Sophie (husband Tyler Knight); son Robert of Andover, and granddaughters, Katherine and Abigail; son Richard and his wife Suzanne of Ashfield; grandson, Simon (wife Celia Lee), and granddaughter, Molly.In addition Doris has two great-grandchildren, Oona and Sullivan. Doris is also survived by her niece, Carol French.
A graveside service will be held later this spring at East Cemetery in Rowe.
