Ronald J. (Ron) Shippee

Ronald J. “Ron” Shippee, of Ashfield, MA, passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at the age of 62.
Ron was born to parents Theresa M. (Giard) and Merton E. Shippee on July 2, 1954 in Montague, MA. He grew up as one of six and attended Mohawk Trail Regional High School and graduated in 1972. He continued his education at Greenfield Community College earning an associates degree in environmental science. In 1974, he married Valerie J. Plympton of Greenfield, MA. In 1978 he took a position as a security guard at Yankee Atomic in Rowe, MA working his way up in the nuclear power industry since then. Ron’s hobbies included cribbage, golf, enjoying many types of music, driving and spending time with family. Ron was on assignment in Zion, IL as a Radiological Engineer when he passed away unexpectedly due to heart complications.
Ron is survived by his wife Valerie J. Shippee of Ashfield, MA; daughter Sarah Burnap, son-in-law Joel Burnap, and three grandchildren Lucianne, Fredrick and Calvin Burnap all of Bernardston, MA; son Daniel Shippee and his wife Krista (Moody) Shippee of Longmont, CO; son Joshua Shippee of Eurika, CA; brother Thomas Shippee of Jefferson, ME; brother, Raymond Shippee of Buckland, MA; sister Suzanne Askew of Valparaiso IN; brother, Tim Shippee of Greenfield, MA; and brother Mark Shippee of Buckland, MA.
Calling hours will be at Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home located at 40 Church Street, Shelburne Falls, MA on June 1st from 5-7pm. A Funeral service will be held on June 2nd at the same location at 11am followed by a noon reception at Edge Hill Golf Course located at 298 Barnes Road, Ashfield, MA. In lieu of flowers the family is suggesting donations be made to the Ashfield Fire Dept. Association at PO Box 560 Ashfield, MA 01330. Ron will be dearly missed.
