Paul N. Fournier, Sr.

Paul N. Fournier, Sr., died Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at the age of 95.

Paul was born in West Swanzey, NH on April 12, 1922 the son of Arthur H. and Mary A. (Normandy) Fournier.

On February 6, 1943 Paul was married to Stella L. Mecheski and while they were enjoying their honeymoon, Paul was drafted into the Air Force. They immediately returned so that he could begin his service.

As a member of the "Marauder Men" with the 455th Bombardment Squadron of the 323d Bombardment Group, he flew in 65 missions in Europe over Normandy, northern France and Rhineland. Paul was Honorably Discharged on June 23, 1945 having attained the rank of Tech Sgt.

Upon discharge from the service, Paul returned to his job he had before the war at Greenfield Tap and Die as an inspector. He remained with GTD for a total of 42 years and retired from quality control in 1982 at the age of 60.

In his retirement years enjoyed painting. He would paint landscapes, animals or anything that would catch his eye. Some of his paintings can be found in homes throughout the area and a few were entered into competition at the Franklin County Fair where they received ribbons.

He also enjoyed watching westerns on TV as well as riding horses himself.

Survivors include his son Paul N. Fournier, Jr and his wife Judy of West Palm Beach, FL, has daughter with whom he lived Michele Laczynski and her husband Ed of Greenfield, a granddaughter Kelly Wade and her husband Scott of Charlestown, NH, his two great grandsons Parker and Owen Wade, and several nieces and nephews.

Paul was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Stella L. Fournier on June 1, 2008 and a granddaughter Laurre Ann Fournier in November of 2005.

A gathering of family and friends will be Sunday, April 23 from 2 to 4 pm at the Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home, 87 Franklin St., Greenfield. Military honors will be presented at 4:00 pm by the Honor Guard of the Westover Air Reserve Base. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Paul's family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to the nurses and staff of the Poet's Seat Health Care Center. Your unwavering support, care and love for Paul was truly a comfort beyond words. The heartfelt compassion will always be remembered.

In lieu of flowers, the family recommends memorial donations be sent to the Poet's Seat Health Care Center Activities Fund, 359 High St., Greenfield, MA 01301
