Mary A. (Roys) Valiton

Mary A. (Roys) Valiton, 88, died Monday, August 21, 2017 at home with her family by her side.

Mary was born in Lafayette, IN on August 10, 1929 the daughter of Carl and Ursula (Purinton) Roys. She graduated from West Chicago High School, attended Syracuse University, and in 1952 graduated from the Franklin County Public Hospital School of Nursing as Class President.

Mary served as a registered nurse at various hospitals and nursing facilities from the early 50' through the early 70's. She was a very caring person and her dedication to nursing and her patients was felt by all who was in need of her attention and care.

She was an avid Red Sox fanatic and enjoyed watching the team regardless of the standings.

Mary had a deep devotion to her family and instilled in them an unending love for each other. Her sharp mind and great spirit provided an inspiration to all who knew her. She will be greatly missed.

Her family she leaves behind include two sons; Gregory Valiton and his wife Wanda of the Island of Belize, Jeffrey Valiton and his wife Andrea of Xenia, OH, two daughters; Susan Belida, with whom she lived, and her husband Loren of Hillsboro, NH, Dorothy Spadola and her husband Daniel of Whately, MA, two brothers; Arthur Roys and his wife Jane of Florida, Charles Roys and his wife Sarah of Leverett, MA, two sisters; Dorothy Morrissey and her husband Thomas of Sandwich, MA, Eleanor Woodard of Brookline, NH, a son-in-law Robert Tuminowski of Epping, NH, her many grandchildren and great grandchildren who loved and adored her, and several nieces and nephews.

Mary was predeceased by her husband of 35 years, Earl L. Valiton in 1987, a daughter Dawn Tuminowski, and brother Robert Roys.

Visiting hours will be Thursday, Aug. 24 from 4 to 6 pm at the Smith-Kelleher FH, 40 Church St., Shelburne Falls.

A funeral service will take place Friday, Aug. 25 at 10:00 am at the Mary Lyon Church, Upper St., Buckland with Rev. Richard Fournier, Pastor presiding. Burial will follow in Center Cemetery located behind the church.
