Horace G. (Bud) Purinton

June 14, 1922 ~ February 12, 2017 (age 94) 94 Years Old


Horace G. "Bud" Purinton, 94, died Sunday, February 12, 2017 at home surrounded by his family.

Bud was born in Charlemont, MA on June 14, 1922 the son of Albert T. and Veda L. (Springer) Purinton. He attended the Little Red School House in East Charlemont and Arms Academy in Shelburne Falls.

He served honorably in the US Navy during WWII. He was a member of the Seabees and was stationed in Guam for 17 months and then in Pearl Harbor for 7 months as a member of the construction battalion.

Prior to retirement in 1986 he was employed for 32 years at the Greenfield Tap & Die. In retirement he was a driver for the Meals on Wheels program for 21 years and enjoyed every day. In his spare time he enjoyed golfing with his friends.

Survivors include his wife whom he married on September 27, 1953, the former Dorothy E. "Dotty" (Hunkler), a son Jeffrey (Barbara) Purinton of Manchester, NH; three daughters; Donna Lee Dushane of North Adams, Joan Marie Ward of Greenfield, Karen Elizabeth (Brian) Jackman of Bourne, MA; three grandchildren, one great grandson and one great granddaughter.

He was predeceased by his brother Albert and two sisters Lurena Parker and Virginia O'Dell Lyman.

A Celebration of Life service will take place Saturday, February 25 at 2:00 pm at the Charlemont Federated Church, Main St., Charlemont, MA. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Shelburne Falls Military Band, c/o Paul Willis, 253 Ashfield Rd., Buckland, MA 01338
